Biography : a Summary

Agnès Maelström is an indie horror fiction author and passionate performer, weaving dark, thought-provoking narratives that resonate deeply with her audience.

Beginning with piano and dance lessons at the age of three, and later adding singing lessons at five and drama classes at nine, Agnès’s artistic journey has been deeply rooted in the performing arts.

Her stage presence was so remarkable that she was noticed on the stage of the Ducourneau Theater (Agen) while performing the title role in Jean Anouilh’s Antigone, directed by Lux in Tenebris theater company's artistic director Jean-Pierre Plazas. Her critically acclaimed interpretation earned her an acting award and granted her young amateur troupe a summer tour across Francophone Europe, performing on prestigious stages at major theaters and festivals.

Now a published author, her debut novel, Porcelain, tackles the harrowing realities of child abuse while exploring themes of inner darkness and the struggle to find light amidst life’s darkest moments.
This work led to an invitation to join the prestigious Horror Writers Association as the first French female fiction horror author.

Agnès Maelström’s work uniquely blends high-quality writing with a deep engagement in multiple art forms, all aimed at both entertaining and provoking thought.

Her second novel will be published in fall 2025, and she is currently working on her first solo album as a singer (producer: Morgan Maelström.)

Testimonials

Agnès is a talented actor who slipped into the role of Princess Ashaka with ease in the making of a Heroic Fantasy feature movie.

Her range, kindness and pleasant disposition made the filming experience very enjoyable.

Very professional, she made a point of immersing herself in her character and capturing every nuance.

I can't recommend her services highly enough.

Frédéric Singlard, fiction author and film director, 2025.

Agnès... I knew her before she was even born, so dear is her mother, Brigitte, to my heart. I followed her first steps, her first notes, and I can say without hesitation that Agnès is a born artist.

From an early age (barely three!), she showed a thirst for learning and an uncommon musical sensitivity. I could never have imagined teaching piano to such a small child, but Agnès was not like other children. She listened, understood and felt music with a maturity that has always fascinated me. She showed me the way to teaching the very young, and I'll always be grateful to her for that.

We shared so many years, so many moments of music and life. My husband, Jacques Strouk, who recently passed away, had a special affection for her; he admired her talent and her artistic soul, always in search of perfection and emotion. My sister, Badette Serbat, an exceptional painter and Beaux-Arts graduate, often said that Agnès had a unique “artistic touch”, that touch that distinguishes true creators.

I made a point of opening the doors of the greatest masters of our time to her, and they all saw in her what I had seen since she was very young: a true artist. Anne Queffélec, France Clidat (the legendary “Madame Liszt”, who now rests beside Chopin in Père-Lachaise), Fernando Luis Pérez, a highly talented Spanish pianist... Everyone, in their own way, was struck by Agnès's musical soul and depth of interpretation. It's not just a question of technique or virtuosity, but of an artistic truth that can be felt beyond the notes.

Agnès doesn't just play the piano: she tells a story, she touches, she moves. She is a musician in the noblest sense of the word, but also a complete artist, who knows how to blend all forms of expression to give birth to something deeply personal and vibrant.

To have crossed her path, to have seen her grow and blossom in her art, is one of the great joys of my life and career.

Hélène Serbat, President of Artepiano, first prize in piano at the École Marguerite Long in Paris, 2010.

Working with Agnès was an experience as striking as it was inspiring. When she tackled Telemann's Viola Concerto in G Major, she took on the daunting challenge of learning and performing this demanding work in less than two weeks. What makes this achievement even more remarkable is that, at the time, she had been playing viola for less than a year.

It was during a musical workshop in Amboise, which I later took over as director, that I discovered her exceptional talent. From the very first rehearsals, Agnès demonstrated impeccable technical precision, instinctive musicality and impressive adaptability. Her quick learning curve, attentive listening and deep understanding of the music were already evidence of an exceptional performer.

But beyond her qualities as a musician, it was her professionalism, unfailing commitment and artistic generosity that struck me. She doesn't just play the notes, which is often the case with young musicians of her level; she brings them to life, with a sensitivity and expressiveness that touch deeply and leave a lasting impression.

Agnès is a complete artist, with an inquisitive mind, sincere humility and unfailing determination. I'm convinced that her path will lead her to the highest artistic spheres, and I'm proud to have been able, at some point in her career, to accompany her on this ascent.

Dominique Richard, violist with the Orchestre de Paris and President of Renaissance des Orgues, 2004.
